From scenic walks to more challenging hikes, the area around the Alpenzu Mountain Hut offers routes to suit every ability, surrounded by nature and offering spectacular views of Monte Rosa.
The Walserwaeg
The Walserweg (trail 1W), which can be completed in a day, links Gressoney-Saint-Jean to Gressoney-La-Trinité in around 5–6 hours’ walking.
A picturesque hike set amidst a landscape of great charm, dominated by the imposing Monte Rosa massif. The route passes through some of the most characteristic Walser settlements in the Lys Valley, offering an ideal opportunity to discover the history and traditions of the Aosta Valley communities at first hand.

Ascent of Testa Grigia
At 3,314 metres, Testa Grigia is the highest peak forming the watershed between the Gressoney Valley and the Ayas Valley. Its panoramic location offers spectacular views of the entire Monte Rosa range and the valleys below.
200 metres from the summit lies the Lateltin Bivouac (3,120 m), opened in 1984 and named after the Gressoney mountaineer Ulrich Lateltin, who designed it. Today it offers 16 beds.

The route from the bivouac to the summit is challenging, with unstable terrain, exposed sections and rock faces. Along the way, at 2,777 m, you come to Colle Pinter on the Alta Via n.1, a crossing point for Testa Grigia or for the small lakes on the Ayas side. In summer, the pass is home to marmots and ibex, whilst in winter it is ideal for descents in fresh snow using climbing skins.
