The village of Alpenzu is the site of one of the oldest Walser settlements , a German speaking community which originated in the Swiss Valais. Documents record that the village existed around 1200. The dwellings today, 13 in all, date back to 1668. The group of alpine houses, which have remained pratically intact, are located on a rocky headland, a natural balcony with a remarkable view of the Monte Rosa and of the valley. The site is listed and administered by the regional cultural and environmental authorities.
